Another Salmon for Club Member.

Club member Steve Boswell brought the Club salmon total for the season to 3 fish when he caught a superb hen fish from Hom Pil on the Clubs Weirend beat. Steve measured the fish at 39 inches and never gave any further thought to the size of the fish as he was alone and wanted to get it released back in the River. So he estimated the weight of the fish at about 20lb. Commonly this year the fish fell to a single hook Flying C.

I later had a text from Steve to say that having reviewed the length of the fish against tables for the Wye he thought the fish weighed considerably more than 20lb and was probably closer to 23lb and was a typical deep Wye fish.

The Wye is once again struggling with only a few salmon caught so far this season, the current total for the whole River stands at 48 fish.

At least the Clubs total this year is more than either 2020 or 2021 when in each year members caught a miserable 2 fish. That was thought to be mainly down to the impact of the Covid pandemic on field sports in general.
