The new Salmon Fishing season starts on Friday 3rd March and I’ve never seen the Wye so low at this time of the year. The Met Office announced today that February 2023 is the driest for 35 years and the Wye is starting off on its bones.

After the very lean year in 2022 not at all sure what the 2023 season will bring and the salmon section membership has lost members because of the poor results last year. However the beats at Ross Angling Club are usually amongst the first on the River to score with our waters recognised as a spring fishery. Regularly our first fish will be in the twenty pound bracket.

With the waters low and very clear, fly fishing or fishing with Devon minnow, Flying C or Rapala may all be successful in the early weeks.
