Pollution from field run off is just as damaging to the River Wye as pollution from chemical ingress or slurry. I came across this earlier this week in a gateway where I turned my car round only 50 metres by ditch from the Wye.
Although often overlooked silt run off from fields in wet weather causes damage to the river by carpeting river gravels choking off essential oxygen getting to invertebrates in the river bed. It also has an impact on gravel breeding fish species such as barbel and trout.
