Himalayan Balsam.

Nick Simmonds has sent out a note to all members about the need to pull up these invasive alien plants from the banks of the River Wye. The photos attached to this post show the balsam so that those of you who are not sure are left in no doubt what the stuff looks like. The objective for members is to interrupt the process of flowering which will happen from now until August time. Once the seeds have set and turn brown then they are ready to grow and as you brush by them they will spring in all directions. So if we can stop them flowering they will not be able to set seeds. Everyone should be in no doubt that this plant is a pest and each plant is capable of producing at least 100 offspring.

So the Committee would like all members to pull up just a few plant near to where they are fishing every time they are down at the River.
