Gary gets it right.

Member Gary Spavins thought he would have a days trotting on Weirend for chub rather than sitting rods pointing skywards waiting for the barbel to show interest. The pictures show that was the right decision on a cold March day with water temperatures around the 6 degree mark.

Trotting red maggots in a morning session Gary caught about 16 superbly conditioned chub up to about 4lb on red maggots under an avon float with shot bunched closely together to keep the bait on the bottom.

Chatting to Gary he told me that it would have been a perfect day had it not been for dropping his mobile in the River after having a bankside chat with his daughter.

Coarse anglers have not got many days left before the end of the season so with quality fish like these about it might be an idea for local anglers to get down to the River unless Covid restriction prevent you. The coarse season ends in a weeks time on Sunday next 14th March but I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that.
