Ross AC are now involved in checking phosphate levels in the River as part of a network organised by The Wye Salmon Association. The network was initiated after shocking instances of the River experiencing massive algal blooms earlier in the year when the water took on the appearance of pea soup. This occurs every year now in warmer weather and appears to be getting worse.
This link will take you to a explanation of the network involved on the full length of the the River Wye. https://www.wyesalmon.com/phosphate-sampling/
The River will be checked for phosphate locally in Ross for the next 6 months after which the results for the whole Valley will be collated centrally to make some sense of what is happening to our beautiful River.
