It’s all change for salmon anglers on the Wye from this season onward. Only single hooks are permitted on spinners and spoons and there are new regulations covering salmon flies. This comes as salmon numbers in the Wye continue to fall despite ongoing environmental efforts by various organisations up and down the River.
The finger is pointed at many factors that are involved in the decline of the Wye including the epic rise in the number of fish eating birds that can now be seen everywhere on the River, modern and destructive agricultural practices and the down sliding performance of sewage treatment plants on the River under pressure from rising population. The performance of the authorities charged with looking after our River are also under serious scrutiny as they apparently scratch their heads not knowing what action to take.
The new guide to the rules for salmon fishers can be found on the Salmon Fishing pages of this website here
